Rising Gas Prices Not Expected to Impact Travel to Florida

With gas prices on the rise, many people are asking how this might affect travel in the Sunshine State going into the spring and summer tourism season.  If recent trends are any indication, the visitors will keep coming.

When looking at the number of non-air visitors to the state (primarily drive), VISIT FLORIDA research shows there is no correlation between an increase in gas prices and a decrease in visitors.  In past, it has been shown that consumers will usually make cutbacks at home or in other areas of their vacation to compensate for the increase in gas prices before they will cancel their trip. For instance, they may eat out less, stay in less expensive lodging or do fewer activities.   Continue reading »

VISIT FLORIDA and CBS Ask “So You Think You Know Florida?”

Ninety-four percent of Florida’s 80.9 million annual visitors have been here before, so VISIT FLORIDA is always looking for creative ways to reconnect with those  travelers and remind them why they need to return to the Sunshine State.

In partnership with CBS, VISIT FLORIDA is relaunching the highly successful “So You Think You Know Florida” promotion.  The promotion showcases Florida destinations, challenges viewers’ perceptions and knowledge of Florida locales, educates them on all that Florida has to offer, drives engagement online, and reaches potential visitors with multiple touch points throughout their day.   Running from February 7 through March 28, “So You Think You Know Florida” is meant to ignite potential visitor attention in Florida’s six key feeder markets of Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C .  Continue reading »

Estimated 18.9 Million Visited Florida This Summer

VISIT FLORIDA has released our preliminary estimates of visitors to Florida for the third quarter of 2010 (July-September) which show an estimated 18.9 million travelers visited the Sunshine State. This represents an increase of 0.6 percent from the same period in 2009. Continue reading »
