The 42nd annual International Pow Wow in Orlando, held May 15-19, has come and gone. However, the positive impressions and memories of Florida created during Pow Wow are lasting. Orlando has hosted five previous Pow Wow marketplaces and we were delighted to have Pow Wow hosted by a Florida destination for the second consecutive year. In between Pow Wow’s three days of business sessions, the Orange County CVB and its tourism community entertained and delighted Pow Wow participants at three major Orlando attractions – Disney, Universal and Sea World. I would like to share the text from a VISIT FLORIDA media release that was sent out late yesterday afternoon:
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 20, 2010) – Preliminary estimates* of visitors to Florida for the first quarter of 2010 (January – March), released by VISIT FLORIDA®, the official tourism marketing corporation for the State of Florida, show an estimated 22.7 million travelers visited the Sunshine State. This represents an increase of 2.7 percent from the same period in 2009.

I would like to provide you with an update on VISIT FLORIDA’s destination marketing efforts to support the counties directly impacted by the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
If VISIT FLORIDA is going to be the trusted source for travel planning information after this potential crisis passes, we need to offer credible and transparent information to our customers before and during this situation. VISIT FLORIDA will also continue to compliment that transparency of information with aggressive marketing programs to continue to drive interest in and visitation to the Sunshine State.
