Florida’s second most important European market in terms of visitation to the Sunshine State is Germany, with nearly half a million visitors to the state in 2015. To keep Florida top of mind, VISIT FLORIDA recently hosted four German travel writers on an in-depth familiarization tour (FAM) of the Sunshine State’s Northeast region. Relatively undiscovered to the German audience, the journalists had a taste of the largest city in the U.S. in terms of square miles – Jacksonville; the oldest city in the nation – St. Augustine; and an out-of-this-world experience along the Space Coast. At Stereo Café, a cozy restaurant located in the heart of Munich, Germany, VISIT FLORIDA recently held a small reception to announce the Florida Attractions Finder to nearly 20 top in-country consumer journalists. Germany is one of the Sunshine State’s top markets for visitation and visitor spending; ranked second in Europe and sixth globally, with 452,000 visitors who spent more than $283 million in 2015. Ranked within Florida’s top 10 visitation and spending markets, Mexico brought in 435,000 visitors to the state in 2015 who spent $371 million. Florida is currently ranked as the third most important vacation destination for Mexicans in the world. With Orlando being the top destination for this market, VISIT FLORIDA planned a press trip for four key Mexican journalists to experience all that area and surrounding markets have to offer.
